Tourist killed as speeding car runs off road

The Hemmathagama police said that a foreign woman had been killed and her daughter injured when the car they were traveling in ran off the road and went down a precipice.The driver of the car traveling from Gampola towards Hemmathagama also sustained injuries. The injured are receiving treatment at the Gampola General Hospital.

The 68-year-old foreign woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital.The deceased was identified as Prakash Sharita Devi of Indian origin living in Australia.The police said preliminary investigations had revealed that the driver lost control of the car due to high speed.
