Tourism earnings buoyant raking in over USD 160 million a month so far this year
The country earned 166.5 million U.S. dollars from tourism last month, Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Priyantha Fernando told journalists in Colombo on Monday.
He said that Sri Lanka’s tourism revenue has exceeded 160 million dollars a month from January 2023.
In the first four months of 2023, Sri Lanka has earned 696.3 million dollars from tourism, Fernando said.
This is an increase of 17.8 percent compared to the same period last year, he said.
Fernando told the media, in April, the tourism industry was aiming to attract two million visitors in 2023, an increase from the previous target of 1.5 million.
He said the SLTDA amended the estimates upward due to a positive trend in the first quarter of the year.
