Toronto Police had intervened on Sunday (21) to ensure the safety of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs M.A. Sumanthiran and Shanakiyan Rasamanickam who were about to be assaulted by some LTTE supporters, party sources said. The two MPs are in Canada holding meetings with Tamil diaspora groups to discuss the developments in the country.

TNA Sources said that during a meeting on Sunday evening a group of youth harangued Sumanthiran, who was addressing a meeting. They were not satisfied with some answers given by the MP. Then, they attempted to assault the two MPs, who were escorted out of the meeting hall by the Police. The Toronto Police have provided security to the hotel where the two MPs are staying. Several meetings the MPs were to address had been postponed as well, sources added.
