Top agro-scientist appointed Director General, Agriculture Department

Leading Agro-Scientist Malathi Parasuraman has been appointed the Director General of the Agriculture Department.

The appointment was made by Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

Parasuraman has worked as the Additional Secretary of the Agriculture Technology Division of the Ministry of Agriculture.

She has conducted a number of researches in the field of agriculture, especially Gannoruwa A9 variety, introduction of the first bean genetic research called HOB-2, introduction of HORDI TOMATO HY3 tomato variety, introduction of a new hybrid capsicum variety “Prarthana,” etc., during the time when she worked as a researcher in the Department of Agriculture. Many other research projects were also carried out and completed by her.
