Token postal strike against sale of colonial era post offices in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy
The postal workers have decided to resort to a 48-hour token strike from midnight yesterday (Nov. 07).
The trade union action is in protest against what it calls a government’s decision to sell the post offices in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
Co-convener of United Postal Trade Unions’ Front Chinthaka Bandara told the media the postal workers would launch a continuous strike if the government failed to resolve the issue.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe recently declared that postal offices in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya should be vacated to facilitate much needed projects to generate revenue.
