Toddy production and consumption: Minister calls for report on mismatch between figures
Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has called for a report from the Commissioner General of Excise on the mismatch between figures involving toddy production and consumption in Sri Lanka, the ministry said.
At a discussion held at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday chaired by the minister with the participation of Excise Commissioner General and members of the Sri Lanka Liquor Licensees’ Association, it was observed that although the daily requirement of toddy in Sri Lanka is about 160,000 litres, the daily production of toddy stood at only 45,000 litres. Minister Siyambalapitiya said that there were complaints that some people were using various illegal methods to meet the shortfall. (SI)
