A TNA delegation on Monday (22) requested Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha to pressure the Sri Lankan government to solve the problems faced by the people in the North and East.

The political party representatives held a two-hour discussion with Jha at the Indian HC in Colombo.

The political party representatives said the Indian government had been instrumental in introducing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and thus had to ensure its implementation. The representatives told the High Commissioner that the Constitution needs to be changed to suit the current context.

The TNA representatives also told the High Commissioner that the Indian government must make sure Sri Lanka implements devolution, held provincial council elections, and respects the land rights of the Tamils.

The TNA delegation included newly-elected Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Leader S. Sritharan and comprised R. Sampanthan, Noha Radhalingam, M.A. Sumanthiran, Mawai Senathirajah, Govindan Karunakaran, Shanakiya Rasamanickam and Charles Nirmalanathan.
