No Tamil candidate will contest in the forthcoming Presidential election, representing their community, under any circumstance, former Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council C.V.K. Sivagnanam said on Tuesday.

Addressing the media in Jaffna, Sivagnanam said that there was a clamour by various political outfits in the North and the East that there should be a Tamil candidate contesting in the upcoming Presidential elections. Some parties have even proposed names and published pedigrees of persons who could be the presidential candidate, as per their opinions.

“However, the TNA has decided that under no circumstance, there would be a common Tamil candidate at the next Presidential elections. Instead, we have decided to support a candidate who comes up with a proposal to find solutions for the problems of the Tamil people,” Sivagnanam said.
