Talks between the TNA and Frontline Socialist Party to explore ways and means of working together to bring about solutions to the national crisis had been successful as the two parties could agree on several key standpoints, Education Secretary of the FSP Pubudu Jagoda said.

Jagoda said the talks had been held at TNA MP MA Sumanthiran’s residence at Wellawatte with the participation of TNA Batticaloa District MP Shanikyan Rasamanaiccam. The FSP was represented by Jagoda and its leader Kumar Gunaratnam.

Jagoda said that both parties had agreed that the basis for a sustainable solution could not be found without a new Constitution and a new constitutional draft should be approved by the people at a referendum.

“We have also agreed to work together on many proposals such as urging the government to set up a national audit commission to audit the assets of all political leaders with the intention of taking back the monies they have stolen from public funds. We have agreed to continue the talks between two parties,” Jagoda said.

He said that his party representatives were scheduled to meet the leaders of the SJB coalition at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo last evening.

Jagoda said that among the parties that had sought appointments for talks was the JVP which so far had not responded favourably to their call.
