A large number of policemen, soldiers and STF personnel were deployed yesterday (11) to provide security to the residences of former ministers Douglas Devananda and Cader Masthan.

The security forces fear that the residences of these two former ministers too may come under mob attacks. In the past 48 hours, angry mobs have attacked the residences of many government politicians.

“We have also received information that some groups are getting ready to attack these former ministers. We are taking precautionary action,” a senior policeman said.

Earlier, the office of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MP, Angajan Ramanathan’s office in Sandilipai, Jaffna, too, had been attacked and destroyed by a group of individuals.

Ramanathan’s office was attacked in the early hours of Wednesday. Police and the Army have been deployed near his house in Jaffna to provide security. Police have also commenced an investigation to determine who was behind the attacks.
