Thurstan end Ananda’s unbeaten run

Thurstan ended Ananda’s unbeaten run in the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘B’ cricket tournament as a combined bowling effort saw the visitors reducing the home team to 73 runs and record a huge 206 runs victory at Ananda Mawatha on Sunday.

Chasing 280 runs to win, Methma Karunarathne was the only batsman to reach double figures as the home team were bowled out within 25 overs. Thanuga Palihawadana was the pick of the bowlers.

With just one match to go in the league stage, both Thurstan and Ananda are equal in terms of victories. Both teams have registered three wins each. Of the top four teams, Thurstan have the best net run rate and are the top team in Group ‘Z’.

Despite beating St. Aloysius’ yesterday, Dharmasoka are in fourth place in Group ‘Z’, just below the team from Galle. Unbeaten half-centuries by Hasitha Rajapaksha (89n.o.) and Maneesha Rashmika (51n.o.) helped Dharmasoka record a six-wicket victory at Ambalangoda yesterday.

In the other Tier ‘B’ match played on Sunday Moratu Vidyalaya beat St. Servatius’.

In the Tier ‘A’ tournament, De Mazenod beat Trinity at Asgiriya. Mithul Senerath (70n.o.) and Senash Fernando (81) with half-centuries and Salinda Pathirana with a valuable knock of 48 runs helped the visitors reach a target of 225 runs with five wickets to spare.
