Those with medical complications should not take chances with Omicron
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Those with chronic illnesses and other medical complications should be vigilant about the Omicron COVID variant and obtain prompt medical attention at first sign of being infected by the virus, Clinical Technical Lead of the Home-based Care System and Consultant Family Physician, Dr. Malkanthi Galhena said.
Dr. Galhena said that since Omicron was spreading fast at the community level often entire families fell victim to the virus.
“The symptoms of Omicron are often mild. Thus, even those with chronic illnesses and other medical complications stay at home despite becoming COVID-19 positive. They don’t even consult a doctor. Now, this is a dangerous thing to do. Some people with chronic illnesses and other medical complications can rapidly develop serious symptoms and even die,” she warned.
Dr. Galhena urged those with chronic illnesses and other medical complications to seek medical attention immediately if they develop Covid-19 symptoms.
