Those above 60 yrs given priority in vaccination – Health Ministry
It had been decided to vaccinate those who were above 60 years on a priority basis, again, Acting Deputy Director General of Health, Dr. Hemantha Herath told The Island yesterday.
Dr. Herath said that a majority of those who had died of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka had been above 60 years.
About 54% of COVID-19 deaths have been reported from the 61-80 age group and 23% from the 41- 60 group. Meanwhile 17% of Covid-19 deaths were from the 81-100 age group. Eleven of the deceased were in their 90s. The oldest victim was a man of 98. Men have accounted for about 62% of COVID-19 fatalities.
