Thorium to end energy crisis and usher in prosperity to Sri Lanka!

I am happy my letter on a news item ‘China Leading World in New Type of Energy Production’ in your esteemed issue of The Island on 22nd Feb,22 has evinced a great interest as seen by letters to the press and several personal e-mails received from knowledgeable persons, but regrettably, the government, especially the Ministry of Power, Energy Ministry or Energy Authority, have not responded at least to say what their intentions are in the exploiting this invaluable mineral, said to be of the best quality found in the world.

As I said in my letter, my main fear, or concern, is that, China, now that they have gained a foothold in the country by making this country, poorer in our politicians obtaining loans on unproductive projects, will exploit the situation, both in energy, leading to long hours of ‘POWER CUTS’ and precarious foreign exchange, could influence our gullible politicians, who have no national feelings, to give in, to export this mineral to their country rather than train our locals to set up a nuclear plant. If Sri Lanka has any say in the Industrial Zone set up in Hambantota, by Chinese, we should force them to set up such a plant of 400 Mw, which they have planned for the Industrial Zone.

A mistake or a decision made now will affect the future, hence this subject should be handled with utmost care so that generations to come would praise and rather than curse.

Over to you His Excellency President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who is whipping a dead horse
