Thondaman to announce new tariff structure in line with ADB project

Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Minister Jeevan Thondaman has said that a new water tariff formula will be introduced in line with the project implemented with Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Minister Thondaman gave the indication at a media briefing held on Tuesday (24) at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC).

He gave an assurance that water rates wouldn’t be increased this year. The government implemented the last upward rates revision in August this year.

Minister Thondaman has assured that the new tariff formula would protect the interests of the lower income groups. The SLPP member alleged that various interested parties propagated lies in a bid exploit the electorate against the government ahead of scheduled national elections. (SF)
