Thomians rout Bens

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia scored a thumping 250 runs victory over St. Benedict’s while St. Joseph’s and Trinity also cruised to massive wins in the Inter School Under 17 Division I tournament matches played on Wednesday.

Akash Fernando led the Thomian bowling attack with a five-wicket haul and shared nine wickets with Nathan Caldera to rattle St. Benedict’s for meager 37 runs. The Bens were chasing a target of 278 runs after Romesh Mendis, Charuka Peiris and Mahith Perera scored half-centuries for the Thomians.

In the match between St. Joseph’s and Henegama Central, a third-wicket stand of 145 runs between Hirun Matheesha (79 in 133balls, 5x4s)and Hiran Jayasundara (73 in 88 balls, 5x4s, 2x6s)was the highlight. In reply to the home team’s 260 runs, the lads from Henegama were dismissed for 148 runs at Darley Road.

Trinity meanwhile beat St. Thomas’ Matale by 164 runs as Oshada Jayasundara led the bowling attack with a three-wicket haul.  Yevan Hulangamuwa and Gethmina Kularathna made half-centuries for the winners.
