Thisen half century helps Thomians survive against Gurukula

S. Thomas’ College posted 194 runs thanks to a valuable half century by Thisen Eheliyagoda who put on a sixth wicket stand of 45 runs with skipper Mahith Perera in the Under 19 Division I tournament Tier A match against Gurukula at Mount Lavinia on Wednesday.

Put to bat, the home team were four wickets down for 66 runs at one stage and after Dineth Goonewardene was dismissed for a 59-ball 16 runs the Thomians were precariously placed at five wickets down for 93 runs.

Skipper Perera and Eheliyagoda then battled for 19 overs adding 45 runs.

Eheliyagoda faced 123 balls and scored eight fours and two sixes in his knock.

For Gurukula, Hiruna Nimsara picked up four wickets while Tharusha Dilsara and Poorna Kalhara took two wickets a piece.

In their essay, Gurukula were 24 for one wicket at stumps.
