Thehan, Methwan, Neyara win back-to-back titles

Hill Club Tennis Tournament

Brothers Thehan Wijemanne and Methwan and Neyara Weerawansa won two titles each at the Hill Club Tennis Tournament held at Nuwara Eliya last week. Thehan Wijemanne overcame a first set defeat to beat Hard Court Nationals champion Apna Perera 4-6, 5-4, 10-5 in the men’s singles final. In the mixed doubles, Thehan partnered Janali Manamperi to record 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 win over Chathurya Nilaweera and Neyara Weerawansa.

In the Under 18 boys’ singles final, Methwan beat Sandas Usgodaarachchi 6-4, 6-0 to win the title. In the boys’ doubles in the same age category, Methwan joined Vichinthya Nilaweera to record a thrilling 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 win against Usgodaarachchi and Anujaya Abeywickrama.

For her women’s singles title, Weerawansa registered a 6-2, 6-4 win against Hasali Gajaba. She then joined Janali Manamperi to beat Gajaba and Thuvini de Alwis 4-1, 4-2 in the women’s doubles.
