Thehan, Kiran, Anjalika, Janali compete for singles titles

SSC Open Tennis Championships 2022 

After being eliminated in the semi-finals at the last edition, British School, Colombo player Kiran Viravanathan will attempt to win his first SSC Open Men’s Singles title when he encounters Royalist Thehan Wijemanne in the men’s singles final in Colombo today.

Last year, Viravanathan was eliminated by eventual champion Luca Knese in the semis. Wijemanne was edged out in the quarter-finals by Knese.

Wijemanne reached the SSC Open Tennis men’s singles final when be beat Archana Lokuge 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals. Viravanathan beat Chathurya Nilaweera 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in his semi-final to prevent a clash between the pair who have often come together to win age group and open doubles titles.

In the women’s singles final, national champion Anjalika Kurera will meet Janali Manamperi.

The Ave Maris Covent player beat Neyara Weerawansa 6-4, 6-1 in her semi-final yesterday. Manamperi advanced to the final after leading the semi-final (7-6(6), 1-0) against Savini Jayasuriya, who retired during the second set.

The men’s and women’s singles will be played today.
