The Unclaimed Body
By Lynn Ockersz
In morgues some unclaimed bodies go stone-cold,
On being deftly side-stepped,
By busy-bodies wielding the whip hand,
As temperatures rise in a splitting of hairs,
On the disposal of mortal remains:
Should it be cremations or burials,
In the customary way?
This is the question not easily going away,
But a core issue is lost sight of in the fray:
For, the human and the inconvenient carcass,
Are seen as one and the same,
Signalling that Reverence for Life,
Is quickly slipping away.
