The Strutting Hero

The Hon. Member is having a restless night,

He’s tossing and turning without respite,

And his migraine is making a big comeback,

For, he’s just got it from the minister’s mouth,

That he’d have to clutch his seat for ten long years,

Before his dream of a lifelong pension comes true,

But that’s a heartbreakingly very long way to go,

For, he’s been only two years in the august House,

And he’s not at all certain whether he’ll be returned,

When the next free-for-all election comes around,

Given that his track record leaves much to be desired,

But rough house tactics paid off well last time,

And all that he’d got to do to keep his puny power,

He thinks, is to give the beast within room to rampage,

And while he’s ‘Strutting and Fretting Upon the Stage’,

Without making a name for himself, he remains unfazed,

But this soft voice within him persists in saying:

‘Your Bad Karma will stalk you right through your days.’
