The Smiling Madame Beudet (1923)

This month’s edition of Rendez-Vous with Yasmin and Kumar, features La Souriante Madame Beudet (The Smiling Madame Beudet), a short French impressionist silent film, made in 1923, and directed by pioneering avant-garde film maker Germaine Dulac.

A special feature of the screening of this film, at the Alliance Francaise de Colombo, recently, was that it was entirely accompanied by live music, performed by Menaka de Fonseka and her students.

Joining the show are Sri Lankan film makers Vimukthi Jayasundera and Visakesa Chandrasekaran who share their thoughts on the movie and also music composer, Lakshman Joseph de Saram ,who talks about composing music for cinema “Rendez-Vous with Yasmin and Kumar” is now showing on the YouTube channel of the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
