The Slow Train to Poland

The slow train to Poland,

Lumbers into the uncertain darkness,

And herded into its cavernous carriages,

Are horrified humans in the thousands,

Clutching to their hearts their children,

And all the prized things they could gather,

While tearfully fleeing their motherland;

That beloved soil which they tilled over time,

And turned into a ‘Bread Basket’ of Europe,

But now no more than a Scorched Earth tract,

And a mass destruction weapons trial site,

Where civilians turn into pawns in big power plans,

And go on to swell international refugee ranks.
