The Ration Card is Trumps

Despised and banished since the mid-seventies,

The humble Ration Card of closed economy times,

Should be seen as the answer to the rising ills of the Isle,

Now that people are sinking below the poverty line,

And fighting hard to be above the starvation red line,

While billionaires surface embarrassingly by the day,

Highlighting that we are in an unjust state,

But the day could yet be saved by the nodding ruling class,

If the essentials needed to keep together body and mind,

Are rationed and provided to the people as in the old days,

Before the ‘Robber Barons’ were allowed to have a say,

According to a planned economy leaving nothing to chance,

Which also upholds human dignity as not being up for grabs.
