The Eve Eruption

Published

on

By Lynn Ockersz

A rumbling volcano erupts,

Detonated by long-burning hunger….

Its lava charting a fiery course,

And rousing into angry alertness,

Long desolate towns and villages,

Lush croplands reduced to barrenness,

While turning rulers into gatekeepers,

With heads of increasing uneasiness,

But these counterparts of Marie Antoinette,

Need to learn badly, it may seem,

That law of bare existence,

That in 1789 became all too evident,

And rendered ‘Bastille Day’ memorable;

That the need for Bread and starved bowels,

Are the recurring igniters of social upheaval.
