Midweek Review
The Backstage Star
By Lynn Ockersz
It’s a memorable hour for her,
Our Longsuffering migrant worker,
For, she’s being wooed for her dollars,
So painfully earned over the years,
Amid degrading conditions unutterable,
And for once is being made to feel wanted,
By a master class at the end of its tether,
Groping wildly now for survival options,
While not letting-go its grip on power,
But we have here a curious social situation,
On which thoughtful spirits need to ponder:
The thus far invisible migrant worker,
Who for years was an open economy export item,
Is seen now as more than a statistic on paper,
For, she could win the day for bankrupt rulers.
