Tharushka anchors Isipatana to safety

Tharushka Ashel scored unbeaten 123 runs to help Isipatana reach 244 for seven wickets at stumps after St. Servatius’ paceman Damimdu Sankalpa rattle their first two wickets for just one run in the Under 19 encounter which got off to a late start at Uyanwatta Stadium on Monday.

Ashel was joined by Yuneth Senevirathne to add 179 runs for the fourth wicket as the home team toiled for more than 50 overs for a wicket. Later Sankalpa and Kushan Wijerama shared the rest of the wickets to fall as they restricted the visitors to 244 for seven wickets.

At stumps, Ashel was anchoring the tail with his unbeaten knock and had faced 193 balls and scored 15 fours. Senevirathne was out for 78 runs after having faced 158 balls (9x4s). The match got off to a delayed start due to wet ground conditions.

At Katugastota, Chandimal Herath top scored with 116 runs and put on a partnership of 146 runs with Ryan Anthony (50n.o.) for St. Anthony’s to post 359 for seven wickets declared against Kingswood.

In reply, Kingswood were struggling at 88 for seven wickets at stumps. Oshan Viranjana’s unbeaten 54 in 55 balls was the only bright spot in Kingswood’s innings.

In Jaffna, S. Thomas’ Mount Lavinia were 95 for five wickets at stumps in reply to St. John’s 123 runs in their traditional encounter. For the visitors Aathif Siddhique grabbed five wickets.
