Tharanga qualifies for World Junior Championships with record
St. Peter’s College thrower Rumesh Tharanga established a new National Junior Record as he reached qualifying standards for the World Junior Athletics Championships at the centenary National Athletics Championships at Diyagama on Saturday.
Competing alongside seniors Tharanga cleared 69.93 metres to finish fourth. He broke his own National Junior Record which he established (68.33m) last year.
The qualifying standard set for the World Junior Athletics Championships is 69 metres.
The World Junior Championships will be held from August 1-6 in Cali, Colombia. (RF)
