Ten persons died in eight road accidents across the country during the 24 hours that ended at noon yesterday, Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said.
Thirteen others injured in these accidents are receiving treatment at hospitals, he said, adding that five of the eight road accidents were caused due to vehicles skidding off the roads.
The accidents were reported from Pussellawa, Bandarawela, Mahiyanganaya, Kirindiwela, Pugoda, Ambalantota, Matara and Tanamalwila, the SSP said.
He went on to say that most road accidents are observed to be due to driver negligence. Hence, drivers are requested to be more careful and to adhere to traffic rules.
