The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) has called upon the government to pay teachers Rs 3,000 each for GCE A/L answer script evaluation.

CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin told the media that evaluators were paid at the rate of only Rs 2,000 each a day and the amount was not enough. Following discussions, the Education Ministry authorities had agreed to increase the payment to Rs 3,000, he added.

But the daily allowance remained Rs.2,000, Stalin said.  “Teachers have worked with dedication to ensure that the exam results are released on time. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, they diligently carried out their paper marking duties without demanding additional payments,” the CTU General Secretary said.
