Education sector trade unions yesterday asked the government to implement teachers’ transfers or face a continuous strike.

Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU), Joseph Stalin said that the teacher transfers had to be effected before April 17.

He said so when the unions held a demonstration opposite the Fort Railway Station against the dissolution of the National School Teacher Transfer Board.

A group of pro-government activists protested against teachers
near Fort Railway station yesterday.

“The government has messed up the entire teacher transfer mechanism. Now, it will start transferring teachers in the middle of a school term,” he said.

Policemen from the Fort Police station handed over a copy of a court order banning teachers from reaching the President’s House, Presidential Secretariat, Ministry of Finance and Galle Face.
