Taxation Institute fetes Inland Revenue Commissioner

The Sri Lanka Institute of Taxation felicitated its 35th Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, Ranjith Hapuarachchi, recently, in the presence of officials of the Inland Revenue Department, lecturers and the members of the institute.
President of the Institute, Prasanga Ranwatte, outlined the role of the tax consultant and the relationship between the tax consultant and the Inland Revenue Department. A fellow member of the Institute, Venkatesh Devaraju, spoke on the close relationship Hapuarachchi had with the institute as a tax lecturer.
Hapurachchi said that his policy is not to underestimate or overestimate the income of the public but to derive the correct amount of revenue with the application of the provisions of the Inland Revenue Act.He said the Inland Revenue Department will provide the fullest support in improving the knowledge and practice in taxation.A memento was presented to Hapuarachchi. Secretary of the Institute, Bharatha Subasinghe also spoke.
The SLIT, the pioneer body incorporated under the parliamentary Act No 21 of 2000, is the sole institution dedicated for tax education purposes. Its objective is to create potential tax consultants who could facilitate both the taxpayers as well as the Inland Revenue Department in the process of tax collection in the country.
