Chit-Chat

It’s nice to see new faces cropping up in our film world and Upeksha Ashirwadini happens to be one of them. She has acted in a few films and is currently involved in the shooting of a teledrama – her very first.

Upeksha is no newcomer to our setup, having appeared in our Glam Scene not too long ago.

I had a Chit-Chat with her last week and this is how it all went…

1. How would you describe yourself?

I’m very friendly, fun loving, and, as my friends say, a kind of crazy person.

2. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I enjoy my life and I’m happy the way I am. However, I did turn down a few good acting opportunities in the past, due to various reasons, and I’m making that change now where my acting is concerned.

3. If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?

Absolutely nothing. We are a very closely-knit family. My elder brother lives overseas. He, too, was involved in the film industry, as a producer.

4. School?

I attended two schools – Mariya Rajini College, Negombo, and Newstead Girl’s Collage, Negombo. I was a member of the Mariya Rajini College drama team and also played for the netball team.

5. Happiest moment?

Getting a call from a film director requesting me to come for the shooting of the film ‘Face To Face,’ my very first movie. It was a Sinhala action movie where my character was ‘Madahavi’ – a journalist.

6. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Honestly, I don’t think there is this thing called ‘perfect happiness.’ I would say, we have to make the moment happy, and memorable, and I’m good at that. I’m always happy.

7. Are you religious?

Yes and no. I’m a Catholic and I follow the Lord’s teaching. However, I’m also fond of Buddhism and Hinduism as both teach the values of life. Living a simple life, without criticising others, is very important for a good religious background.

8. Are you superstitious?

Again, No and Yes. I’m not a believer of Astrology or Fortune-telling. But, I believe in Karma and the Law of Attraction ‘ There is always a reason/s for things happening, so I believe there is a sequence of things happening, especially good for me.

9. Your ideal guy?

Being single, and a very simple girl, I would look for someone simple. But, sometimes it’s difficult to elaborate what this simple is, and how much simple my guy has got to be!

10. Which living person do you most admire?

To be honest, I don’t have a particular person in mind. To me, the person I would most admire would be someone who is always beside me and support me at my most difficult time, and guide me.

11. Which is your most treasured possession?

What I’m having is most visible to the person who connects with me for different reasons …yes, a Big Heart.

12. If you were marooned on a desert island, who would you like as your companion?

Oh, I would say a person with a can full of water, and a camel. While quenching our thirst, we can then check out a route that would take us to freedom, and then have the camel do the needful.

13. Your most embarrassing moment?

I would classify this as embarrassing. I was involved in an accident and taken to hospital by a Good Samaritan, kind of unconscious. When I woke up, I found myself in hospital and I felt so embarrassed when I looked around. I had also lost my phone.

14. Done anything daring?

Yes, as I always love taking up challenges. For instance, the Director of ‘Face to Face’ asked me if I could ride a bicycle and a scooter in the film as the character assigned for this task was a bit reluctant to do so. I took up the challenge and did the needful.

15. Your ideal vacation?

Dubai. I have been there and I found Dubai to be a great place for shopping, and my kind of sports – like Kite Surfing and Dessert Riding. Would love to go there again.

16. What kind of music are you into?

I’m into K-pop, and BTS happens to be my favourite band.

17. Favourite radio station?

When I’m in the mood to listen to some good music, with interactive DJs, it’s YFM.

18. Favourite TV station?

I generally don’t watch TV. However, I check out certain dramas on YouTube.

19 What would you like to be born as in your next life?

Definitely as Upeksha A. I’m who I’m and I like myself a lot.

20. Any major plans for the future?

Yes, to produce my own teledrama and film that will be something different in this field, and I earn the title of ‘Producer.’
