T-56 ammunition found in paddyland

Mullaitivu Police on Wednesday (27) took into custody 4,500 rounds of live T-56 ammunition found in a paddy field in Church Road, Mullaitivu.

The owner of the paddy field found the stock of ammunition and informed the Navy, who called in the police.

The paddy field had remained uncultivated for years, and its owner was tilling it when he found the stock of ammunition. The Mullaitivu Magistrates Court instructed the law enforcement officials to destroy the stock of ammunition.

Mullaitivu police said the ammunition had been packed well and was in usable condition.
