System change not in our lifetime; not with today’s politicians
I seek to draw the attention of the President who is battling with what he inherited as those responsible are crawling out of the woodwork. A man in the outskirts of the city was engaged to test the waters for the big man to crawl out. What abysmal levels we have hit is visible when we observe the Pohottuwa kicking out a man who did an outstanding job as the head of COPE and made a questionable nomination to replace him. This takes my mind to a pithy Sinhala saying about horage ammagen pena ahanawa. (Asking for information from the thief’s mother).
We saw that astute, consummate politician who attaches no value to ethics, truth, morality, or anything which falls within decency did not fail to tell the organized cheer squad that you, Mr President, is now with them and implied that they call the shots and that you play the ball.Last Sunday, you published “SYSTEM CHANGE NOT IN MY LIFE TIME” by Sanjeewa Jayaweera . It was suitably illustrated with a photo of the Galle Face protesters attacked by goons unleashed from Temple Trees.
It clearly showed a Catholic priest running for safety from a rod-wielding thug and a policeman making a vain attempt to stop him. The assailant’s face is clear and will be known to the law enforcers. However this man is still at large as the laws of the land are not applicable to him. Strangely, the Police indicted the priest and action is pending.
National television showed how Aragalaya supporters, men women and children were manhandled when they assembled to remember some dead a few days ago.The international community too now recognizes that there is no justice and fair play in our country blessed by Buddha and other faiths. Law abiding citizens fear we are on top of a volcano where an eruption is imminent.Mr President will you be the catalyst for this monumental disaster?
