Suragana Products win Silver Award at Sabaragamuwa Entrepreneur of the Year – 2020

Suragana Products, a leading manufacturer of quality talismans and ‘thovil’ items received the Silver award in the small scale industry category at the Sabaragamuwa Entrepreneur of the Year – 2020 ceremony organized by Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industries in collaboration with the National Enterprise Authority recently.

Proprietor of Suragana products, Suranga Ruwan, has come a long way amidst many difficulties to establish his business. After completing his school education, he opened a small business to repair electric items. As his service was often sought by people coming to a nearby Devale, he developed an interest to make talismans and cases for them.

Eventually, he learned the art of manufacturing high quality cases for talismans. Today Suragana Products supply high quality and traditionally accurate Paslo (mixture of five metals) cases for talismans, hand written talismans, ghee oil lamps and many other items needed to perform ‘thovils’ and similar rituals.

In addition to them, Suragana Products has also opened two Ayervedic pharmacies under the name ‘Visula Sinhala Beheth Welendasela’ at Panadura road, Ingiriya and main street, Eheliyagoda. One of the salient features of the ‘Sinhala Beheth Welendasela’ is that all medicinal herbs are cleaned and displayed in nicely packed baskets.

Customers are welcomed with a glass of medicinal herbal drink. All medicines are given free of charge to Buddhist monks who are unwell. The secret behind the successful journey of Suragana Products over the past decade is the tireless efforts of Suranga Ruwan to maintain the quality of the products in keeping with traditional beliefs and customs.
