Supreme Court rejects Bathiudeen’s FR application
The Supreme Court yesterday rejected the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, requesting the Court to grant an interim order preventing his arrest over the Easter Sunday attacks.
Bathiudeen filed an FR application last month against, what he called, moves to arrest him. He named the CID, Acting Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General as respondents. There were baseless investigations to link him to the Easter Sunday attacks and that a media frenzy had been created, based on those investigations, he has said.
Bathiudeen, who contested Wednesday’s general election, obtained the highest number of preferential votes, 28,203 in the Vanni electoral District.
