Successful candidates can enter universities this year itself – GL
GCE A/L results to be released in seven days
Education Minister Prof G.L. Peiris yesterday announced that the results of the GCE A/L examination would be released within seven days.
Addressing the media,the Minister said that 362,000 candidates had sat the examination held during the first week of November last year. Teachers who evaluated the answer scripts and the Commissioner General of examinations had worked tirelessly to complete the evaluation process, Prof. Peiris added.
Despite hardships, amidst the pandemic, the Ministry personnel continued to work so that the country’s children would be able to enter the universities in September this year without waiting till the next year, the Minister said.
Minister Prof Peiris said that arrangements had been made to reopen the universities countrywide on May 10. Until then, lectures would be conducted online, he added.
“We know that any loss could be recovered but the loss of education is not something that could be recovered ever. Last Friday, we decided to close schools, pre-schools, private tuition classes and Piriven schools because of the pandemic threat. We review the situation and its progress daily. We speak to all provincial and zonal educational directors daily to review the situation and make decisions as per the recommendations of the Director General Health Services. We will meet again next Sunday (02) to review this situation and to decide a date for the commencement of schools,” Prof Peiris added.
