Students hoping to sit O/L exam urged to get their NICs soon

Commissioner General of the Department of Registration of Persons G. Pradeep Saputhanthri yesterday urged students scheduled to sit the GCE O/L Examination this year to obtain National Identity cards as soon as possible.
He said that on average between 350,000 to 375,000 GCE A/L candidates applied for national identity cards.However, the number of applicants was low this year, he said.
“This means a large number of O/L students have not obtained national identity cards.”
Saputanthri said students who had applied for national identity cards but had not received them yet should contact the department via 0115-226100 or 0115226126.The department issued national identity cards to students 16 years of age and under at Rs 250. Those who are over 16 are charged Rs 2,500, he said.
