Student Parliament held at Convent of the Child Jesus National School Ratnapura

A student Parliament was held at the Convent of the Child Jesus National School Ratnapura  recently with the aim of opening the practical space to the students  regarding democracy, responsibility and accountability as well as the importance of voting.

According to the traditions of Parliament, the Speaker was elected at the inaugural session followed by the official oaths and affirmation of the Ministers and Members of Parliament. A parliamentary debate was also held, presenting facts related to each subject area.

The program was organized by the Public Outreach Division of the Department of Communication of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and student representatives, teachers and parents of six schools in the Ratnapura Education Zone  participated. Books containing information about parliamentary proceedings were  distributed to the libraries of each school
