STF blows up lethal haul that once belonged to Tigers

The police digging for LTTE arms with the help of a backhoe

Police commandos, on Sunday, destroyed a lethal haul that once belonged to the LTTE. It was found in the Rasendrakulam Konnawarasankulam area in Vavuniya.

The Nelukulama police and the STF took into custory T-56 automatic rifles, hand grenades and mortars.

The STF received information about the arms cache and the police excavated the area using a backhoe and found the explosives and weapons.

The firearms were corroded but the ammunition and mortars were still in a usable condition, the police said.

The court ordered the police to remove the arms and explosives away from the village and destory them.
