Steps to expedite construction of Nainamadama – Iranawila-Chilaw road

Nimal Lansa, State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure, instructed to expedite the construction of the B640 – Nainamadama, Iranawila-Chilaw road on the Peliyagoda – Puttalam main road to ease traffic congestion in Wennappuwa, Marawila, Mahawewa, Madampe and Chilaw.
The minister gave these instruction in an inspection of the construction work of the road from Nainamadama to Chilaw via Iranavila.
Accordingly, the construction of 20.75 km of the road which runs parallel to the coastal area has been expedited. The cost of this road, which will be constructed under two lanes, is 800 million rupees.
He instructed project officers to construct a bicycle lane in Iranavila area and an exercise lane in Chilaw area parallel to the construction of this road, to plant wetakeya plants to prevent sea erosion and to plant magul karada plants specific to the coastal area on both sides of the road.
The construction of the road will bring many economic benefits to the people of the area, including the promotion of local and foreign tourism, and the facilitation of the business activities of the fishing community.
