MEP leader and Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says that all stakeholders of government are duty bound to protect it.

“People voted and elected this government at a time when the country was in dire straits owing to the loss of national security. They saw as the solution for their despair and hoped that we would be able to lead the country out the quagmire it was in. We are now duty bound to deliver what we promised,” Gunawardena said addressing an MEP meeting held at Padukka on Friday.

He said that protecting the government formed by people was a responsibility of all its stakeholders. Stakeholder parties must keep in mind that whatever that should and could be solved within the government should be so solved without making public statements to grab media attention.

“The people elected this government with high hopes at a time when the previous Yahapalanaya regime had brought the country’s economy to a standstill. However, the country had to be closed and placed under lockdown in the face of the global corona pandemic.  Therefore, the economy of the country could not be strengthened by placing it in the right direction. All parties in the government should work together to bring the country back to normalcy, build a strong economy and fulfill the aspirations of the people.

“I was instrumental in allocating funds covering all 104 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Avissawella electorate. Therefore, everyone must be committed to implementing these proposals, moving the country towards a production-based economy, creating new employment opportunities and strengthening the economy.”

Deputy Secretary of the MEP, MP Yadamini Gunawardena, Chairman of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha Jayantha Rohana, MEP Secretary of the Avissawella Electorate Samantha Udaya Kumara Gamage, Member of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha, S.A. Pemaratne and several other active members of the MEP were also present at the meeting.
