St. Sylvester’s win Stubbs Shield

St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy dominated the 104th Stubbs Shield Championship winning four gold medals, two silver and one bronze. The annual event organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association was held at the Royal MAS Arena Boxing Ring in Reid Avenue,

St. Sylvester’s pugilist S.P.P. Angelo was also the Best Looser of the meet.

Kadugannawa National School won two golds, one silver and three bronze medals to finish second in the boys’ category.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and Trinity College, Kandy shared the third place winning two golds, and two bronzes each. Y.V.M. Premarathna of S. Thomas’ was crowned the Best Boxer of the championship.

In the girls’ category, H .M. Nethmi Herath of Hemamali Girls’ College Kandy was awarded the Best Boxer title.

The awards were presented by Chief Guest Dian Gomes, President of Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and Executive Committee member of the Asian Boxing Confederation. Upali Amarathunga, Director of Sports of the Ministry of Education was the guest of honour.
