St. Joseph’s, Visakha clinch titles at Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championships

St. Joseph’s College, Darley Road and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo clinched the overall boys’ and girls’ titles respectively at the 47th Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championships concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming complex in Colombo on Sunday.

The Josephians aggregated 613 points to clinch their 17th consecutive title. Their arch-rivals St. Peter’s were in second place with a total of 402 points. Ananda were placed third with a total of 300 points. D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo (222.5), Lyceum International School, Nugegoda (218), Royal College, Colombo (200), Trinity College, Kandy (194.5) and Lyceum International, Wattala (184.5) were the other schools to have aggregated over 100 points.

In the girls’ category, Visakha won their second consecutive title as they aggregated 475 points. Ladies College, Colombo (301.5) and Lyceum International, Wattala (267) finished second and third respectively. Former champions, Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy finished fourth. Musaeus College (197.5), Lyceum International, Gampaha (132), Lyceum International, Panadura (131), Anula Vidyalaya (115), St. Bridget’s Convent (114) and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya (113) finished among the top ten schools.

Visakha Vidyalaya emerged champions in the girls’ category

Visakha’s Ganga Senevirathna, who established three new records, was adjudged the champion swimmer of the Under 20 age category. Anandian D.K.G. Silva, who also created three new records, was the champion in the boys’ category. Chris Pavithra of St. Peter’s and Hiruki de Silva of Gateway College were the champions in the boys’ and girls’ segments of the Under 18 age group.
