St. Anthony’s complete semi-final line up

Under 13 Division 1 Cricket

St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota completed the semi-final lineup of the Under 13 Division I cricket tournament as they beat Mahanama College, Colombo on first innings in the quarter-final played at Giriulla on Sunday.

St. Anthony’s join St. Peter’s, Bambalapitiya, Royal, Colombo and Richmond, Galle in the semi-finals.

Yenula Hewavitharana, Sisal Hemaka and Adeesha Rathnayake helped the team from Kandy obtain first innings points as they took two wickets each to restrict Mahanama to 140 runs. That was in reply to their 182 for five wickets declared.

For St. Anthony’s, Nishitha Karunarathna and Vihanga Nethusara scored half-centuries.

In the other quarter-final matches played on Saturday, Royal and Richmond secured their semi-final berths by scoring first innings victories, while the match between St. Peter’s and Trinity ended in an intriguing tie.

The higher average points maintained by St. Peter’s from the first round to the pre-quarter-final round stood them in good stead as they secured the semi-final berth.

In the match between Royal and Dharmapala a century by Nithesh Jayasinghe was the highlight. The Royalist scored an unbeaten century in 114 balls (with 14 boundaries).

A five-wicket haul by Tharul Shanilka helped Richmond restrict St. Joseph Vaz’s to 82 runs in their match.
