Sri Lankans win 6 medals at Asian Para Games with two new games records.

Sri Lanka’s Para Athletes, powered by Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’ss premier connectivity provider,have clinched six medals at the Asian Paralympic Games currently underway in China. These six medals comprise two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes, propelling Sri Lanka to the 15 th  position in the medal standings as of Thursday.

Nuwan Indika and Pradeep Somasiri secured the gold medals, while Samitha Dhulan and JananiDhananjana claimed the silver medals. Palitha Bandara and Kumudu Priyanka contributed to Sri Lanka’s medal tally with two bronze medals.

Nuwan Indika, who participated in the 100 meters event in the T-44 category, completed his race in an impressive 11.63 seconds, establishing a new Asian Para Games record. Pradeep Somasiri participated in the 1500 meters event in the T-46 category and comfortably secured the gold medal. Pradeep completed the race in 4 minutes and 5.14 seconds, setting a new Asian Para Games record.

Paralympic medalist Samitha Dulan clinched the third medal for Sri Lanka. Although he typically excels in the F-44 category, Samitha competed in the javelin event in the F-64 category. His impressive throw of 64.09 meters earned him the silver medal, surpassing the previous best mark for the F-44 category in which he usually competes. Janani Dhananjana and Kumudu Priyanka won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the long jump T-47 category. Palitha Bandara secured another bronze medal in the F-63 category with a personal best performance of 14.15 meters.
