Sri Lanka Open Scrabble Championship 2023
The Sri Lanka Open Scrabble Championship 2023, organized by the Sri Lanka Scrabble League was held recently at the Sasakawa Japanese Cultural Centre, Colombo 03.The tournament attracted the best scrabble players of Sri Lanka, who came together to compete in a battle of words and wits in 17 rounds of challenging and competitive games to contend for the coveted title. Adheesha Dissanayake emerged as the triumphant Champion of the tournament, cementing his position as a master of words by winning 14 out of 17 games.
His victory showcased his exceptional vocabulary and strategic acumen, setting the bar high for future competitions. Jayaska Baranage and Imeth De Silva clinched their places as the first and second runners-up respectively, securing 12 game wins each, further underlining the depth of talent in the competition. Special Prizes were awarded to the following as well: Best Player U15 – Inam Irshad, Best Player U19 – Kavindu Malawaraarachchi, Best Senior Citizen – Shaila Amalean, Best SLSL (500-1000) rated player – Ilham Irshad and Best performing NewComer – Udhev Prasath. The awards ceremony was graced by renowned author Ashok Ferrey whose literary achievements added an additional layer of prestige to the championship.
