Sri Lanka earns ‘50 million euros’ for SOPHIE GERMAIN built by Colombo Dockyard

Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva inspects the new cable laying and repair vessel SOPHIE GERMAIN, manufactured in Sri Lanka for Orange Marine France

The newest cable laying and repair vessel SOPHIE GERMAIN, in Colombo Port was inspected by Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva on July 27. This ship manufactured for Orange Marine France, is to be used for marine construction and repairs, including laying cables on the seabed.

During this inspection, the Colombo Dockyard company told the minister that Sri Lanka has received about 50 million Euros as foreign exchange through the construction of this ship. The width of ship is 18.80 meters and its length 100 meter long.

Colombo Dockyard added that this is the second ship built for Cable Laying and Repair work, and 255 ships have been built and delivered to European and Asian countries on various requests. Accordingly, Dockyard emphasized that European and Asian ship owners’ have gained confidence in 'Colombo Dockyard' and have chosen 'Colombo Dockyard' as the most suitable company for ships building according to their needs in the future.The minister appreciated Colombo Dockyard Company’s joint venture with the Sri Lanka Port Authority as a company that manufactures the most modern cruise ships to Europe and the Asian region.
