Sri Lanka drops 18 places in 2023 Global Peace Index
Sri Lanka has dropped 18 places to be ranked 107th in the 2023 Global Peace Index (GPI) the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness which is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). Sri Lanka was ranked 90th in 2022.
The report presents the most comprehensive data-driven analysis to-date on trends in peace, its economic value, and how to develop peaceful societies. The Global Peace Index covers 99.7% of the world’s population, and is calculated using 3 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources, and measures the state of peace across three domains namely, the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict and the degree of Militarisation.
According to the 2023 GPI the most peaceful country in the world is Iceland followed by Denmark and Ireland while the least peaceful country is Afghanistan
